Mr. Shamsul Arfeen Hashmi has displayed his work nationally and internationally in galleries including Return on Art gallery (Austria, Vienna), Ejaz Art Gallery, O Art Space, Lahore, and Canvas Gallery, Karachi. He has also experimented with his art practice in the artist residency with COLAB’S Lahore.
His journey from a rural background in Rahim Yar Khan to becoming a visual artist against all odds is truly remarkable. His artwork depicts real-life sceneries and visuals from his village and is largely autobiographical. He tries to break the ideology behind traditional landscapes by experimenting with his compositions. He defines his creative process as ‘self-revealing’ and ‘meditative’ for himself.
His works are on display with very well-known artists like Imran Qureshi, Damien Hirst, Sadequain, and Ismail Gulgee. His work was also selected for the 16th edition of the Arte Laguna Prize, Venice, Italy. Moreover, he is also an Actor/ Singer with classical training, he received the best actor award in 2019 from the NCA Theater Society, and he recently joined well-known playback and classical singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for further training in classical music, he intends to pursue his passion for music professionally in the future.
